Boracay introduces ‘Resbakuna sa Botika,’ a pedia vax program.

Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, is preparing to welcome foreign tourists once more with the launch of ‘Resbakuna sa Botika’ booster doses in pharmacies at the Watsons City Mall on Friday.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine was also made available to children aged 5 to 11.

Governor Florencio T. Miraflores stated the country’s decision to open its doors to foreign tourists promises a bright future for Aklan in his address at the event’s start.

Boracay has had no active Covid-19 cases to date, and its residents and staff have all been fully vaccinated and are waiting for their booster vaccinations.

“The Secretary of Tourism (Bernadette Romulo-Puyat) has previously stated that international tourists are currently arriving in the country. We are at the cutting edge of this evolution. We have properly immunized workers and citizens, and we are more than ready to reopen Boracay to foreign tourists,” the governor added.

Residents should also get their children vaccinated, according to Miraflores.

He recalled that after imposing a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test requirement for tourists due to an increase in cases in December and January, tourist arrivals in Boracay decreased to less than a thousand from an average of 4,000.

After containing the Omicron surge in two to three weeks, the island was reopened to guests on February 2.

In her message, Puyat stated that immunizing children between 5 to 11 years old is critical because Filipinos like traveling as a family.

“We’re doing this because we want to make sure that everyone is safe,” she explained.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the National Task Force’s chief implementer, and vaccine czar claimed Boracay Island is a model in terms of immunization, with a vaccination rate of above 100 percent.

When its population is all bolstered and those aged 5 to 11 years old are immunized, more tourists are expected to flock, he added.

“We will witness a surge in the Malay area, as well as all ancillary businesses in Aklan,” he said.
