VP Leni wants renewable energy for power plants.

BALANGA CITY. Vice President Leni Robredo, a presidential candidate, said on Saturday that she supports renewable energy in the running of the country’s power plants.

Robredo made it plain during her campaign stop here that operating a nuclear power plant was only an option and would only make up a minor part of her government if she were to win the presidential election in May 2022.

She stated that some people wanted to talk about it because of the depleting energy supply.

“Mas tinitingnan natin ngayon ang (Now we’re searching more) for the shift to totally renewable energy.” We are more interested in liquefied natural gas, a fossil fuel that is less harmful than coal. “What we’re looking at the most is the shift to the energy mix,” Robredo stated in her statement.

She addressed a group of religious leaders at the St. Joseph Cathedral, chaired by Bishop Ruperto Santos, that it was evident in her government that fossil fuel will be phased out, at the very least.

The Vice President was welcomed by provincial and municipal authorities led by Governor Albert Garcia, Rep. Jose Enrique Garcia III, and Vice Governor Cris Garcia at The Bunker, the headquarters of the provincial government.

She then spoke from the balcony of St. Joseph Cathedral before meeting with the religious sector at the St. Joseph Formation Center.

From the Balanga City Plaza to the Bunker, one side of the two-kilometer capitol route was lined with applauding supporters and volunteers, most of whom wore pink shirts and waved pink-colored cloths.

Robredo greeted her supporters from the cathedral balcony, escorted by the bishop and a few nuns and priests.

Despite their limited resources, she claimed, The Bunker was able to assist throughout the epidemic and typhoons.
