Marcos is lobbying for the reinstatement of Kadiwa mobile stores in all barangays.

MANILA, Philippines — To ensure that Filipinos do not go hungry again, as they did when the epidemic first struck two years ago, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is calling for the permanent creation of “Kadiwa” rolling supermarkets in every barangay across the country.

Marcos believes that Kadiwa stores should be located in every barangay since they are successful in assisting consumers in purchasing essential commodities like food at lower costs than those found in normal markets and supermarkets.

“Maganda na bumalik ito dahil effective ito at maraming natutulungan (It’s wonderful to bring it back since it benefited a lot of people),” remarked the standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

Following a surge in prices of essential food products due to lockdowns enacted to combat the spread of Covid19, the Department of Agriculture reintroduced the Kadiwa program, which was originally the brainchild of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Marcos has advocated for the government to encourage local farmers by purchasing their products, which they may sell at lower prices.

“The Kadiwa system allowed the general people to acquire things at lower prices and farmers to sell their products without worrying about transportation costs,” he explained.

“‘Yung produkto na binili ng gobyerno, ‘yung hawak nilang supply ay pwedeng ipagbili ng mura,” says the author. Gumawa ng rolling-store para pumunta kung saan may customer (Products purchased by the government may be sold at a reduced price.) They should construct a rolling store that can be delivered to clients),” Marcos suggested.

Marcos congratulated the current Duterte administration for resuming the initiative that began under his father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

However, he stated that the program’s implementation, especially the functioning of the Food Terminal Inc., can still be improved in order to ensure that a sufficient supply of local products reaches citizens on a constant basis.

He explained that through this scheme, the government can help salvage the agriculture industry, which was already suffering prior to the pandemic issue.

He also stated that aiding the farm sector will result in the creation of jobs, higher productivity, and government food supply security activities.

Marcos also urged Filipinos to show their support for local farmers and their products, which is especially important now that the country is recovering from the pandemic.
