The AFP chief congratulates Eastern Mindanao forces on their wins over the Reds.
MANILA, Philippines – Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Gen. Andres Centino, has praised field units in Eastern Mindanao for their successes in combating the communist terrorist organization (CTG) operating in the area.
On February 16, he made this declaration during a visit to the 1003rd Infantry Brigade in Davao City’s Bunawan District and the 403rd Infantry Brigade in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
“I came here to convey the President’s congratulations to the units of Eastern Mindanao Command for their successful campaign,” Centino said in a statement Thursday. “This included the dismantling of Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) 5 and the neutralization of CTG leaders Jorge Madlos and Menardo Villanueva, among others.”
During his visit, the AFP commander presented medals to outstanding military men who participated in the campaign that led to SRC 5’s decommissioning.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline while the AFP works to terminate the local communist insurgency and secure the next poll.
“I make it a point to reach out and see for myself how our troops are doing. I take it upon myself as a commander and Chief of Staff to personally rally our troops and lead from the front “Centino went on to say.
He also praised the units’ ability to maintain discipline.
“Our company is known for its discipline. I’ve witnessed our evolution; we’re no longer the same people we were when we were lieutenants. We’ve come a long way in a short time. Let us take use of the public’s trust in order to keep our momentum going “Centino remarked.
