MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Information and Technology (DICT) announced Thursday that a new security element will be added to the country’s digital Covid-19 vaccine certificate (VaxCertPH).

According to DICT acting Secretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic, security elements must be updated as more nations use VaxCertPH.

Caintic explained, “Kailangan lang dagdagan (We need to add some) [features] in compliance with the norms.”

The most significant change, he claims, is the addition of booster shot information to the certificate.

“Kapag kayo ng mga VaxCert, makikita niyo na rin ang pangatlong jab ninyo sa vaccine certificate,” he said.

The Department of Health (DOH) previously recommended all those who had vaccine certificates request updated certificates at www.vaxcert.doh.gov.ph.

“Hinihingi pa rin iyong datos ng pangalan ninyo at saka iyong mga petsa noong inyong pagbakuna at lalabas na rin iyong pangatlong booster shot,” Caintic explained.

Individuals can also contact their particular local government units (LGUs) to correct their VaxCertPH information, according to him.

“Ang maganda din diyan, kung halimbawa may problema sa inyong datos, agad-agad na rin nilang maiwawasto (the good thing about that, is for example, there’s a problem in your data, it could be revised immediately),” he added.

To completely vaccinate Filipinos, the government issues VaxCertPH.

With the World Health Organization’s (WHO) standards on digital documentation of Covid-19 certificates, the digital vaccine certificate can be used for both domestic and foreign travel.

Transactions for requesting an updated VaxCertPH, according to Caintic, will be quick.

Approximately 41 countries have accepted the VaxCertPH so far. Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Georgia, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Samoa, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, The Netherlands, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, UK, USA, Vietnam, Brazil, Israel, Timor Leste, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, and the Republic of Ireland are among them.

Caintic also mentioned that VaxCertPH is accepted in select places around the country.
