MANILA, Philippines — Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo admonished judges on Friday to keep up with technological advancements and their role in the administration of justice.

During the hybrid oath-taking ceremony of the Philippine Judges Association’s (PJA) 2022-2023 national officers and regional directors, Gesmundo stressed the significance of keeping up with the times and how technology plays an important role in the administration of justice.

“You must have heard that the Supreme Court is focusing on introducing innovations, particularly in terms of how we perform our work as a Court, by focusing on technology.” As a result, we are hopeful that we will be able to begin putting things in their correct positions. We could argue that the Court’s aim is difficult to achieve, but if we decide and have the desire, we can succeed. Technology plays a critical role… We will be able to introduce these advances with your help,” he stated.

Judges were also reminded of their responsibility as front-line judges by Gesmundo.

“As front-liners, you are, ideally and under normal circumstances, the first point of contact for litigants, particularly in first-level courts. As a result, we must ensure that those dealing with the court in cases are satisfied with the way you conduct yourself in the trial court. Because their dissatisfaction reflects on the entire judiciary,” he continued.

Gesmundo also urged members of the PJA and other judges to support all of the Court’s judicial reforms, noting that they “play a vital part in the overall plan of the Judiciary.”

The PJA is a Supreme Court-recognized organization of judges from Regional Trial Courts (RTCs).
