Micro coops in southern Negros that were impacted by the typhoon are receiving financial assistance.
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) has given a total of PHP350,000 to four micro cooperatives in southern Negros Occidental that were impacted by Typhoon Odette in December.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and CDA Assistant Secretary Myrla Paradillo conducted the turn-over ceremony at the covered court of Barangay 9 in Kabankalan City on Thursday, and the recipients got symbolic checks.
Lacson expressed his gratitude to the CDA for its dedication to promoting the cooperatives’ long-term growth and full development.
“(The) disbursement of financial aid will help us achieve our goal of strengthening our people’s capacities. The governor stated, “An empowered people is the foundation of growth.”
The three recipients, Gil Montilla Agrarian Reform Cooperative, San Jose Villa Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Sitio Flora Agrarian Reform Cooperative, each got a monetary aid of PHP100,000 from the CDA’s Special Assistance for Recovery and Alleviation Program.
A PHP50,000 award was given to the Pulupandan Transport Sector Consumers Cooperative.
Lacson also led the distribution of food packs and housing construction materials to 1,476 individuals in Candoni town during his visit to southern Negros.
Residents in Barangays Cabia-an, Caningay, Gatuslao, Poblacion West, Agboy, Banga, Haba, Payauan, and Poblacion East received aid.
The cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay, as well as the municipalities of Ilog, Candoni, Cauayan, and Hinobaan, were the most struck in the south, with strong gusts, torrential rainfall, and widespread flooding overnight on December 16.
