In the second quarter, Pangasinan State University plans to offer face-to-face classes.
BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan (UPDATED) — Pangasinan State University’s (PSU) nine campuses are now 70 percent ready for the start of limited face-to-face (F2F) classes in the second quarter of this year.
PSU president Dr. Dexter Buted said in an interview on Friday that the policies and standards for the limited F2F classes are in place, but that the materials and equipment are still being purchased.
“The limited F2F budget is at least PHP20 million,” he stated, citing television sets, lapels, air purifiers, increased ventilation, health equipment materials, and dividers as examples.
PSU has also set aside PHP25 million for the entire campus’s internet connection.
“We want each classroom to have its own internet connection,” he continued.
PSU’s curriculum, according to Buted, is now focused on theoretical learning, with technical and laboratory learning, including experimentation, set to begin in April or May of this year.
In-person classes would be optional, he said, and blended learning will be offered for those who prefer online study.
“We can only handle 15 to 20 kids per classroom, yet we serve over 31,800 students over nine locations, so we need to organize the moving carefully.” “We are in the process of hiring new instructors as well because the teacher-student ratio is still an issue,” he added.
Buted also stated that the Department of Health has examined some of their campuses to ensure that they are following the coronavirus disease standards (Covid-19).
Nursing, engineering, hotel and restaurant management, computer technology, welding, electrical, and automotive, among other courses, will undertake the pilot deployment of F2F sessions this year.
