DUMAGUETE CITY — In all of the province’s local government units (LGUs) as well as the mega vaccination site at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center here, the province of Negros Oriental formally launched its simultaneous vaccination of the pediatric sector, which includes children aged 5 to 11 years old.

During a virtual news conference, Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer, said of the Resbakuna Kids rollout, “We are taking walk-ins for this particular sector, however, we will also cater to other sectors for booster, the first dose, and second dosage shots.”

While Estacion could not provide a goal number for pediatric vaccinations until the LGUs submitted master lists, she assured the public that there is enough vaccine for this age group.

She and other health staff wore party hats and headgear with cartoon characters for the immunization, and the site was decorated with toys and balloons. After receiving the Pfizer vaccine, the children were also given rewards.

Meanwhile, despite the threat of the Omicron form, the latest spike of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Negros Oriental is slowing down.

According to Estacion, the number of active cases in the province has plummeted to three digits in recent weeks, down from four in early February.

As of Thursday, the overall Covid-19 caseload in Negros Oriental was 22,337, with 22,352 recoveries, 260 active cases, and 725 fatalities.
