The Western Visayas has joined the SAFE polling campaign.

CITY OF ILOILO – A multi-sectoral effort led by the Philippine National Police (PNP) will ensure peaceful, safe, and free elections in the Western Visayas, according to a regional official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

For the campaign kickoff, Comelec Regional Director Wilfred Jay E. Balisado remarked, “It is definitely a moment to celebrate doing what is right and necessary during the approaching election, and it shows our passion and commitment to have a safe, honest, and fair May 9, 2022 election.”

The Western Visayas portion of the drive, dubbed “Kapulungan ng inyong Pulis, ng inyong Sundalo, ng inyong Bantay Dagat, ng COMELEC (Commission on Elections), at lahat ng Lingkod Bayan kasama ang Simbahan at Pamayanan (KASIMBAYANAN), was held at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) headquarters at the

In support of the government’s endeavors to hold safe, accurate, free, and fair national and local elections (SAFE NLE) in 2022, KASIMBAYANAN was first unveiled at the national level on Feb. 3 at the PNP’s national headquarters.

Its goal was to use interfaith prayers to preserve and protect the integrity of the impending national and local elections, as well as to create a place for stakeholders to declare their commitment to a non-partisan and nonviolent election.

In a follow-up interview, PRO6 communication officer Lt. Col. Arnel Solis explained that after the regional activity, a similar event will be held in provincial and local police stations.

Participants joined in the lighting of the SAFE candles, the pinning of the SAFE 2022 pin, and the manifesto signing of the peace covenant during the regional launching to show their solidarity in restoring trust in the electoral process and ensuring a transparent, honest, and peaceful election, according to a PRO6 press release.

It was followed by blessings from religious leaders and the release of white doves, which symbolized hope and peace.

In his message, PRO6 Director B/Gen Flynn E. Dongbo reaffirmed the PNP’s commitment to secure, accurate, and fair elections in 2022.

“I am confident that if we work together as one and in unity, we can achieve an honest and crime-free election,” he stated.

Heads of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), and religious and community leaders also attended the ceremonial launching.
