MANILA – Malacanang praised the Australian government on Tuesday for its ongoing support for the Philippines’ Covid-19 pandemic response and other humanitarian aid.

“Thank you Australia for your generosity,” acting presidential spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said in a Palace briefing following the delivery on Monday night of an additional 293,670 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination provided by the Australian government through UNICEF.

On February 18, the Australian government first delivered their donation of 1,432,080 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for adults.

In addition, the Australian government provided the Philippines with PHP48.7 million in cold chain equipment, medical supplies, and other aid.

Australia has been a long-time partner of the Philippines during the pandemic, providing technical, logistical, and in-kind help, according to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

The vaccine gifts from the Australian government, according to Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor, head of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 Strategic Communications sub-task group on current operations, will be a major boost to the country’s immunization effort.

The Philippines has received a total of 224,836,560 Covid-19 vaccinations from various pharmaceutical companies, including both government-purchased and donated vaccines.
