Only 4% of the 56.6K current Covid-19 patients are serious.
MANILA, Philippines — Only 4% of the more than 56,000 active Covid-19 cases are serious, but between 12 and 15% of hospital admissions are classed as severe to critical, according to a health official.
According to Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, a big number of hospital admissions are asymptomatic and minor, according to a Palace briefing.
“Kasabay ng patuloy na pagbaba ng mga kaso ng Covid-19 ang pagbaba ng bilang ng severe and critical cases na-ospital,” she added.
On February 20, the Department of Health’s nationwide admissions data revealed 1,151 severe cases (11.35%) and 450 critical cases (4.84%).
In the meantime, 1,724 people (16.24 percent) are symptomatic, 3,253 people (31.28%) are mild, and 3,881 people (36.29%) are moderate.
The reduction in critical and severe cases, according to Vergeire, can be related to the immunization campaign, as Covid-19 vaccines prevent death or severe symptoms.
With negative one-week and two-week growth rates and a moderate risk average daily attack rate, the country is currently classified as low risk for Covid-19 infections.

The DOH reported 1,019 new cases of Covid-19 as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the lowest single-day tally this year, for a total of 56,668 active cases.
A total of 2,988 fresh recoveries were made, with 12 deaths.
