LGUs with a vax output of 70-80% may be downgraded to Level 1.

MANILA, Philippines — Local government units (LGUs) that can inoculate at least 70% of eligible individuals and 80% of elderly people from their target demographic will be rewarded by the federal government.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the National Task Force Against Covid-19’s principal implementer, stated that LGUs that satisfy the vaccine coverage criteria will be put in the most lenient Alert Level 1 classification, citing a similar requirement for the National Capital Region (NCR).

“Ito ay gagawin po natin parang requirement or incentive sa ‘yung higher coverage na at least puwede po silang magkaroon ng Alert Level 1 sa NCR (This is our goal.) It will be a mandate or an incentive for individuals with higher coverage to have at least Alert Level 1 (as in the NCR) “During a virtual public briefing on Monday night, Galvez remarked.

Galvez also mentioned the necessity for the government’s Covid-19 immunization program to be restructured and for LGUs to increase their vaccination campaigns.

“We’ll concentrate on mobile and house-to-house vaccination to find and vaccinate the remaining eligible population,” he said. “Again, we’re trying to direct all agencies and sectors to actively participate in providing primary and booster vaccinations, with a particular focus on schools and workplaces.”

In total, 134,332,014 doses of Covid-19 have been provided in the Philippines, with 62,652,101 adult Filipinos now completely immunized, including those who received the single-dose Janssen and Sputnik Light vaccines.

Meanwhile, as of Monday, 9,781,090 eligible people have received booster shots or additional dosages.

Galvez added that the country’s Covid-19 vaccine program has already hit a tipping point, with daily output dropping from 1 million to less than 500,000 doses per day.

He also mentioned that just 3.5 million people were vaccinated during the third round of the “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” nationwide campaign, which ran from February 10 to 18.

According to Galvez, nearly three million senior individuals and those with comorbidities are still unvaccinated.

As a result, the Department of Health’s National Vaccination Operations Center has assigned a focal person to each region to help LGUs that are falling behind on vaccination, particularly the Bicol Region (69.96 percent), Caraga Region (69.75 percent), Mimaropa (68.56 percent), Soccsksargen (61.25 percent), and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which has the lowest vaccination rate of 28.02 percent.

Galvez stated that the government will expand the “Resbakuna sa Botika” campaign and ask more pharmacies and medical clinics around the country to assist in increasing booster vaccination rates.
