On March, 27 Kidapawan public schools will have in-person classes.

KIDAPAWAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – Following a decrease in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the city, twenty-seven public schools will begin limited face-to-face sessions.

Mayor Joseph A. Evangelista, who leads the Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force, said in a meeting Tuesday that the schools are 100 percent ready after passing the Department of Education’s School Safety Assessment Tool and other requirements (DepEd).

“Compared to modular and blended learning, this is the time to deploy in-person classes for effective instruction,” he said, noting the rising incidence of pediatric vaccination as the “path to recovery.”

The Amas National High School (NHS), Juan L. Gantuangco NHS, Spottswood NHS, Kalaisan NHS, Saniel NHS, Manongol NHS, Ginatilan NHS, Mt. Apo NHS – Balabag Ext., and Mt. Apo NHS are among the nine secondary schools listed.

Following the release of the local government’s PHP5.3-million financial subsidy from the Special Education Fund (SEF) for the schools’ purchasing of essential materials and equipment for the operation, a rigorous “no collecting policy” will be applied.

In addition, the municipal government will deploy ten people to each school to help instructors, who will be compensated under the Department of Labor and Employment’s “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged at Displaced Workers” (TUPAD) program (DOLE).

In the previous four months, three public schools – Paco National High School, Kidapawan City National High School, and Northwest Hillside School – were part of the city’s initial phase of limited F2F classes.

“Hopefully, in collaboration with the Department of Education, the remaining 40 schools will open by the end of the year,” the mayor stated.
