Bacolod postpones vaccinations for children because of a shortage of Pfizer vaccines.
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Due to a shortage of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, the Emergency Operations Center Task Force (EOC-TF) in this city has halted the immunization of children aged 5 to 11 years old against the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19).
“Until until notice, there is no immunization schedule.” The EOC-TF declared in a statement on Thursday that Bacolod City “had exceeded its aim.”
Because the vaccination locations at three shopping malls can only accommodate up to 100 vaccinees, they implemented a “first come, first served” approach on Wednesday.
On February 21, Ayala Malls Capitol Central, SM City Bacolod, and Robinsons Place Bacolod initiated a mall immunization program for children aged 5 to 11.
Using the 1,000 vials or 10,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines received by the city government from the Department of Health since the roll-out on February 14, the EOC-TF has undertaken immunization in various hospitals, private schools, and shopping malls (DOH).
“A public advisory will be issued once immunizations for children are widely available,” the EOC-TF added.
Parents should bring their child’s birth certificate and any government-issued ID when the immunization regimen resumes. A kid should present parental consent if accompanied by a guardian.
Based on the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is indicated for active vaccination for the prevention of Covid-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 in individuals 5 years and older, according to the Department of Health.
