Women from the Philippines who have Ukrainian husbands are unable to leave for the time being.

MANILA – Philippine Ambassador to Poland Leah Basinag-Ruiz said Filipino women married to Ukrainians are uncertain about whether or not to leave the troubled European country.

Men between the ages of 18 and 60 are not allowed to leave Ukraine because they must join the army to help defend their country from Russian soldiers.

Ruiz said they are exhausted all attempts to assist remaining Filipinos in Ukraine during an OFW (overseas Filipino worker) town hall meeting organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and aired online on Monday.

“The Ukrainian ladies have no trouble, and we were able to grant them visas,” Ruiz stated in Filipino, “but when the Ukrainian males were barred from leaving, that’s when the dilemma began.”

Nonetheless, the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, is advising those Filipinos still in Ukraine to make a decision as soon as possible so that they can receive prompt assistance.

“Right now, the most important thing is to get Filipinos out of harm’s path,” Ruiz added.

Six Filipinos came home last week, according to DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola, while 13 were evacuated to Poland.

After a five-hour wait, the 13 were welcomed by a bus with DFA Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. at the Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne Border Crossing Station on Sunday.

Six Filipino evacuees are currently on their own in Moldova, eight sailors were saved from the bulk carrier MV S Breeze at the Moldovan border, four are in Romania, and another eight are in Hungary, according to her.

Condemnation

On Monday night (Philippine time), the Philippines was poised to vote “yes” at an emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to voice “explicit disapproval of the invasion of Ukraine.”

The Philippines will strongly condemn the use of separatism and secession as a diplomatic tool for inviting and inflicting atrocities and indiscriminate killings far exceeding those seen in any other conflict.

“Although no one can believe press reports of losses on either side, 14,000 people have died since 2014. We have yet to identify the true casualties on both sides due to the current cloud of misinformation. We demand that citizens and civilian infrastructure be protected. We firmly urge an end to hostilities; nonetheless, while an offense can be stopped at any time, the defense cannot rest until the offense has ended “The DFA issued a statement on behalf of the Philippines.

The Philippines will make a demand “Massive aid in proportion to the rising humanitarian situation, echoing the UN Secretary-request Generals for humanitarian principles to be followed in order to safeguard people and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. The most effective means of ensuring safe access to humanitarian aid must be used “.

Foreign Ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) previously urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and make every effort to engage in dialogue through all channels, including diplomatic channels, in order to contain the situation, de-escalate tensions, and seek a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law, the principles of the United Nations Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

“We feel that peaceful dialogue is still possible to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control. It is the obligation of all parties to defend the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and equal rights of all states in order for peace, security, and harmonic coexistence to prevail “On February 26, Asean issued a statement.

Complete support

Arriola stated that the Philippine government is doing all possible to assist Filipinos in all aspects of their lives.

“Lahat ito ay gagawan natin ng paraan na maka-uwi sila at sinasabi lang natin sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan,” she remarked.

According to Ruiz, getting a bus to carry Filipinos from Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, to Lviv, Ukraine’s westernmost city, is becoming increasingly difficult.

An embassy team is on standby in Lviv to assist those who will be arriving on their own.

Apart from private cars, trains from Kyiv to Lviv continue to run.

She also requested Filipinos to keep the Philippine Embassy informed of their condition on a regular basis.

“Kailangan masigurado na embassy na makatawid sa Ukrainian side at sa Polish side,” says the source. ‘Yan ang inaasikasyon ngayon (We need to make sure they’re escorted by the embassy so they may securely travel from Ukrainian to Polish territory.) That’s what we’re doing today),” Ruiz explained.

“We’re using our diplomatic cover to guarantee that we can get our Filipinos to safety as quickly as possible,” she added.
