Deaf interpreters collaborate with DOST.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (PRID) has teamed with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to incorporate sign language in its “TekNegoShow” business type discussion program, and the deaf population will soon learn more about advancements.

DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Pea stated in a Viber message on Monday that PRID executive director Shirley Pinky Earnheart expressed interest in having access to the program and having it streamed on their platform.

“TekNegoShow,” which debuted in 2020, brought together technology experts, industrial or technology adopter visitors, and guests from the finance or economic side.

The online program offers technological insights, adopter experiences, as well as commercial and economic perspectives.

The PRID and the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) recently signed a memorandum of arrangement (MOA) for this collaboration, according to De la Pea.

“Through TekNegoShow, the PRID will incorporate sign language to ease understanding and empower the deaf community to discover technologies that can serve as sources of ideas for generating income,” he stated.

The PRID received access to the show’s first season and special episode, as well as the permission to stream the show using their web platform, thanks to the MOA.

“This effort has the potential to boost self-esteem and enable deaf people to be self-sufficient. The DOST-ITDI must be acknowledged or cited appropriately throughout the procedure “De la Pea went on.

Season 1 focused on pandemic-relevant technology like as ready-to-eat food and hygiene solutions, among other things. The special edition, on the other hand, highlighted ITDI’s superior technology, technical services, and facilities.

ITDI Director Anabelle Briones previously stated that the Institute has set aside at least PHP2 million for 13 episodes, each lasting 30 minutes.

According to her, the goal of these episodes is to promote stakeholder participation and raise the chance of technology transfer and adoption in the manufacturing sector.

Meanwhile, De la Pea stated that PRID and ITDI will continue to collaborate.

The provision of training for the deaf population, as well as the incorporation of sign language in ITDI training, webinars beginning this year, are among the possible cooperation, he said.
