BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – According to data issued by the Provincial Incident Management Team (PIMT) on Tuesday, active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Negros Occidental declined by 93.23 percent in February.

The number of cases had dropped to 233 on February 28 from a high of 3,445 on February 1.

On February 7, active cases were still at 3,455, but by February 14, they had declined to 2,089, and by February 21, they had dropped to 947.

According to the most recent PIMT report, the province has only seven new cases.

As Negros Occidental stayed under Alert Level 2 from March 1 to 15, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson observed, “Our numbers are now truly going down, and that’s a good sign.”

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Health-Western Visayas (DOH-6) coverage rate as of February 28, 1.196 million Negrenses have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

This equates to 57 percent of the province’s total population, or 80 percent of the 2.098 million target vaccinees.

The immunizations have now been given to 1.308 million Negrenses, or 62.35 percent of the target population.

Negros Occidental’s vaccination target has risen from 1.825 million in 2021 to 2.098 million in 2022, according to the Provincial Health Office, after the city’s expected population increased from 2.607 million in 2021 to 2.623 million in 2022.

In addition, the province’s immunization aim has been raised from 70% of the population in 2021 to 80% in 2022.
