DUMAGUETE CITY — In 2019, the province of Negros Oriental plans to vaccinate 196,226 children aged 5 to 11 years old against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Dr. Liland Estacion, Assistant Provincial Health Officer, stated in a virtual press conference Tuesday afternoon that the figure is based on master lists of local government entities (LGUs).

“The total objective for children aged 5 to 11 would vary based on LGU submissions,” Estacion remarked in a mix of English and Cebuano. “I’m hoping the LGUs will be vigilant in their immunization efforts, as we haven’t even allotted vaccinations to the hospitals for these young children.”

According to documents from the Provincial Health Office, the province had already immunized 5,504 youngsters with the first dosage as of March 1, accounting for only 2.8 percent of the intended objective.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children for vaccinations while supplies last, according to Estacion.

In total, 529,744 adults in the province have been fully vaccinated, accounting for 53.4 percent of the total target of 990,637.
