The NAIA will treble its passenger capacity and operate at full capacity, according to the Department of Transportation.
MANILA, Philippines โ Now that the National Capital Region (NCR) and several other regions are under Alert Level 1, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said Thursday that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is preparing to double its passenger arrival maximum from 5,000 to 10,000.
Tugade said the DOTr’s Aviation Sector had prepared for the “gradual” increase with “structural and procedural methods” in a Facebook post.
“We hit 7,500 inbound passengers at the NAIA two days ago.” And we’re expecting 10,000 passengers in the next couple of days,” Tugade said.
Since March 1, when the Alert Level 1 was reduced to the least stringent, all public transit, including air, has been allowed to run at full capacity.
Tugade, on the other hand, stated that all “universal and obligatory safety procedures” will remain in place in all airports and planes from departure to arrival.
He stated that the NAIA Terminal 4 will reopen on March 28, citing a 150 percent rise in domestic travel in the country from January to February of this year.
He went on to say that the newly opened NAIA Taxiway Charlie would allow the airport to expand its aircraft slots from roughly 34 to 40 to 44 to 46.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) reported the completion of 246 airport projects in the last five years through the Aviation and Airports Sector and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
The Bicol International Airport, known as the “most scenic gateway,” the Clark International Airport, the rehabilitation and extension of the Puerto Princesa International Airport, and a number of other airport projects across the country are among them.
