LGUs to DILG: Tighten health protocols and increase vaccinations.
To prevent community transmission of the Omicron form, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recommended local government units (LGUs) to tighten the execution of minimum public health standards and to increase vaccination, including boosters.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Ao stated in a press release on Monday that vaccination, including boosters, is critical for enhanced protection against Omicron and new coronavirus strains. At least 14 verified Omicron instances have been found in the Philippines.
“Hinihimok po ang mga pamahalaang lokal na tiyakin ang 100 percent vaccination rate ng lahat ng kanilang senior citizens o A2 priority group at ang lahat ng kanilang persons with comorbidities o A3 category ayon sa payo ng DOH (We encourage local government to ensure 100 percent vaccination rate ng lahat ng kanilang senior citizens o A
“Maaari pong mag-house-to-house immunization para sa A2 at A3 priority groups at makipagtulungan sa mga civil society organizations o business sector para sa ganitong community-level initiatives,” he said.
LGUs are also instructed to deploy contact tracers to conduct active case finding, apply granular lockdowns, and enforce the permitted capacity of business establishments under the present Alert Level.
They should also keep a careful eye on compliance with home quarantine and isolation rules, such as doing daily inspections in person through mobile or telephone.
Booster doses
While Covid-19 immunizations remain effective in protecting against severe and critical Covid-19, according to DILG spokesperson and Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, it does not totally stop the virus’s propagation.
“If we don’t wear our masks, sanitize our hands, exercise physical distance, and stay or meet in a well-ventilated environment, we unknowingly spread the infection to those around us.” He stated, “Discipline muna para sa ligtas na Bagong Taon.”
Since December 22 of last year, all fully vaccinated adults over the age of 18 have been able to receive a single booster shot three months after the second dose of a two-dose series (AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, and Sinovac) and two months after the single-dose Janssen.
“We hope that more Filipinos will be able to get the Covid-19 vaccination booster dosage in 2022.” “Based on the DOH warning and the availability of brands in vaccination clinics, you can get a booster using the same vaccine or a different vaccine brand,” Malaya said.
