Artes reassigns MMDA staff to deal with the NCR’s traffic congestion.
MANILA, Philippines — Romando Artes, Chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), has transferred three MMDA officials to command three traffic enforcement squads to help handle the spike in vehicular traffic in the NCR (NCR).
Artes announced the appointments of Traffic Operations Officer (TOO) IV Edison Nebrija as the new head of the Task Force Special Operations (TFSO) and Anti-Colorum Unit, TOO IV Jeffrey Torres as the new head of the EDSA Special Traffic and Transport Zone, replacing Nebrija, and TOO1 D’Arthony John Maquinto as the new head of the Northern Traffic Enforcement District in a statement on Friday.
“We have faith in Nebrija’s ability to enforce traffic laws and regulations beyond the stretch of EDSA, and to clear traffic blockages from Mabuhay Lanes and other key thoroughfares,” Artes added.
Nebrija’s responsibilities as chief of the TFSO and Anti-Colorum Unit have expanded beyond EDSA to include all NCR highways under the MMDA’s control.
The TFSO, according to Nebrija, will focus on offering motorists with alternative routes.
“We will step up our clearing activities so that motorists have other options except for EDSA.” “We appreciate the management’s cooperation for our traffic-relieving measures in Metro Manila,” he said.
Torres, on the other hand, would be the MMDA’s traffic management chief on EDSA, the country’s busiest thoroughfare.
Torres’ primary goal will be to improve traffic flow on EDSA through traffic management, with a secondary goal of catching traffic violators.
He promised to support Nebrija’s efforts to manage traffic on EDSA and the MMDA’s 500 traffic enforcers’ “continuous visibility,”, especially during rush hours.
The NCR and numerous other parts of the country were placed on the least restricted Alert Level 1 on March 1, permitting full operation of all modes of public transportation and the return to work of the majority of the country’s workforce.
