Before returning to on-site work, BPO employees require some time to acclimatize.
MANILA, Philippines — Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, a senatorial candidate for the Partido Reporma, said people who have been working from home since the outbreak began, notably in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, should be given ample time to adjust before being forced to return to their offices.
He went on to say that workers’ concerns regarding the safety of traveling and staying in offices should be taken into account because some of them are either living with unvaccinated babies and toddlers or with parents and loved ones who have comorbidities.
“Hangga’t may nao-ospital pa at may nasasawi sa Covid-19 ay ating sitwasyon hindi pa fully safe.” We cannot consider our position genuinely safe as long as people are being hospitalized and dying of Covid-19 in the nakalipas na dalawang taon at para sa iba ay isang trauma ito lalo na at kung naranasan nila ito sa kanilang pamilya. In the last two years, many individuals have been hospitalized and died as a result of the sickness; it is still traumatic for some, especially if a family member was among those affected),” Eleazar said in a statement on Saturday.
Another element to consider, according to Eleazar, is the rise in the cost of basic products and services as a result of a series of oil price spikes exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The national government intends to have all employees return to work by April 1 in order to encourage consumption and help the economy recover from the pandemic’s devastating effects.
As the country’s Covid-19 position improves, the Fiscal Incentives Review Board (FIRB) has so far declined requests to extend remote-work arrangements.
Eleazar believes the national government should be open to the possibility that some businesses will continue to operate from home, and that others will embrace a hybrid work arrangement in which a sufficient proportion of employees are on-site while others work from home.
He also stated that workers and employees continue to be productive even when they are at home.
