Solon is urging local governments to allow elders and those with disabilities to get immunizations on the spot.

On Tuesday, a party-list politician encouraged local government units (LGUs) to allow older citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and immunocompromised individuals to receive immunizations on the spot.

Rodolfo Ordanes of the Senior Citizen Party-list made the announcement after Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire claimed that 1.5 million seniors have yet to obtain a vaccine.

“Seniors who have not been vaccinated must be allowed to walk into vaccination clinics. Instead of registering online, people should register in person. PWDs and A3s (adults with comorbidities) are in the same boat “Ordanes said.

According to the Department of Health’s vaccination tracker, just 5.63 million seniors are fully vaccinated, 4.924 million have had their first dosage, and only 499,361 have received their booster shot. As of May 2020, the Philippines had approximately 12.3 million Filipinos aged 60 and up, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

“Clearly, much more has to be done to prevent seniors from being admitted to hospitals as a result of Covid-19. I’ve argued before that online registration is a roadblock to elderly being vaccinated “he stated

He did point out, however, that certain LGUs require all people obtaining Covid-19 vaccinations to register online.

“Please, let the seniors, those with disabilities, and people with A3 get ahead because they are at a bigger danger of suffering and death than most others,” he urged.

Seniors, those with disabilities, and adults with comorbidities, he claims, are particularly sensitive to Covid-19’s Omicron and Delta versions.

“Walk-in talaga dapat sila at ang pila nila sa vax site ay dapat para sa kanila lang, hiwalay sa ibang nagpapabakuna (They should be allowed to walk in and they should have a separate line in the vax site),” he said.

He also stated that mandated face shields should not be reinstated and that the existing voluntary use of face shields should be maintained.
