Ukraine’s president emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity late Wednesday, amid ongoing peace talks with Russia.

“My priorities in the negotiations are crystal clear: an end to the war, security guarantees, sovereignty, restoration of territorial integrity, genuine guarantees and protection for our country,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video message released by Ukraine’s Presidency.

Additionally, Zelenskyy pleaded with Russian soldiers to lay down their weapons in order to have a chance at survival.

“Put your weapons down. It’s preferable to dying on the battlefield, on our territory,” he stated.

Underscoring Russia’s continued war crimes in Ukraine, Zelenskyy stated: “The Russian economy is still capable of supporting their military apparatus.”

“The world must finally acknowledge that Russia has devolved into a terrorist state,” he stated.

He urged the international community to reimpose sanctions on Russia and provide additional assistance to Ukraine in order to put an end to Russia’s occupation of the country.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began on Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, resulted in financial sanctions against Moscow, and sparked an exodus of multinational corporations from Russia.

According to the UN, at least 726 civilians have been killed and 1,174 injured in Ukraine since the war began, though conditions on the ground make verification difficult.

Additionally, the UN refugee agency reported that over 3 million people have fled to neighboring countries.
