BUTUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – On Tuesday, in commemoration of World Water Day 2022, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Bislig, Surigao del Sur (CENRO-Bislig) led volunteers from the public and private sectors in raising awareness about the critical nature of groundwater and its conservation.

As part of this year’s World Water Day celebrations, CENRO-Bislig personnel and partners conducted “River Clean Up Drive” activities in two major rivers in Bislig City.

Nearly a hundred individuals from various sectors of the government and private sector participated in the Tabon and Mangagoy Rivers cleanup drives.

“World Water Day emphasizes the critical nature of freshwater. “Part of the commemoration is advocacy for sustainable management of freshwater resources,” CENRO-Bislig stated in a statement.

The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible.”

CENRO-Bislig noted that as the climate change phenomenon worsens, the world’s groundwater becomes more critical.

“We must collaborate to manage this priceless resource sustainably,” the agency stated.

Additionally, on Monday, CENRO-Bislig led bamboo and tree planting activities in Sitio Sanyata, Barangay San Roque.

The event commemorated International Day of Forests, which this year focused on the theme “Forests and Sustainable Consumption and Production.”
