Lacson resigns from the Partido Reporma to run as an independent candidate.

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, a presidential contender, formally resigned as chairwoman and member of the Partido Ng Demokratikong Reporma on Thursday, and will now run as an independent candidate in May 9 elections.

Lacson said in a statement that he decided to quit the party after learning that the party’s Davao del Norte slate will be endorsing another presidential contender.

“I was notified by the party president, former Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, yesterday (Wednesday) that their slate in Davao del Norte, led by the party secretary-general and Provincial Governor Edwin Jubahib, had opted to back another presidential candidate,” Lacson stated.

Lacson claims that he ran for party standard-bearer at the “behest of these top tier officials,” and that it is only proper for him to quit in order to defend his ideals.

Despite these developments, he stated that his presidential campaign will continue.

“In light of these recent events, allow me to state that, like the true-blooded fighter that I have always been, I will continue to battle in pursuit of my goal to serve my nation and its people as your Chief Executive – if God and the Filipino people will it, come May 9, 2022,” he concluded.

Lacson also stated that he had no animosity toward Alvarez, Jubahib, or the other of the party’s Davao del Norte candidates.

“To all members and candidates of Partido Reporma outside of Davao del Norte – who joined the party because of our shared advocacy to fight graft and corruption in the pursuit of good governance, all for the sake of our beloved country and people – with or without party affiliation – I am not leaving you behind.” “I assure you that in our common principles and objectives, I will be your leader and supporter,” he stated.

“Magkakasama pa rin tayo sa laban na ito,” says the narrator. tuloy ang laban hanggang sa dulo, tulad ng paulit-ulit kong sinasabi! (In this conflict, we’re still united.) We will fight till the end, as I have always said.) God bless our dear Philippines,” he concluded.

Following Lacson’s move, former Magdalo party-list representative Ashley Acedillo resigned as the party’s spokesman.

“In light of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson’s retirement as Chairman of Partido Reporma, and given that I am fully committed to supporting him in his presidential bid, I am also effectively resigning as the party’s spokesman.” As his official spokeswoman, I will continue to support and campaign for Ping Lacson in his presidential campaign.
