MANILA, Philippines – The presidential campaign of Bongbong Marcos welcomed the endorsement of the National Unity Party on Thursday (NUP).

Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’s spokesperson, described this as a vindication of the UniTeam’s “movement for national unity and nation-building.”

“The NUP’s endorsement demonstrates that our movement for national unity and nation-building, which began as a whisper, has grown into a crescendoing national chorus,” he said in a statement.

“With profound humility and gratitude, we express our gratitude to the leadership and members of the NUP for placing their trust in presidential frontrunner Bongbong Marcos to carry out the common vision of one nation, one future,” he added.

On Thursday, the NUP endorsed Marcos’ presidential bid, saying his “call for unity as the fundamental strategy for economic recovery in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and global uncertainties is consistent with and supportive of the NUP’s primary vision of ‘one nation, one future.'”

“We call on all our Party members to join hands with former Senator Marcos in ensuring the continued prosperity and progress of our country and people,” it added.

Elpidio Barzaga Jr. of Cavite is the current leader of the NUP, which was founded in 2010.

Previously, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the Reform Party (RP), and the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi endorsed the Marcos-Duterte tandem.
Rodriguez stated that the bandwagon of support for the Marcos-Duterte UniTeam by major political parties is “truly reassuring.”

He stated that despite the fact that all national polls indicate a runaway advantage for Marcos, “we cannot be complacent because the forces seeking to bring him down have not abated, and appear to have intensified their gutter tactics.”
