MANILA, Philippines – On Friday, a Commission on Elections (Comelec) official stated that an inter-agency team will be formed next week to investigate allegations of vote-buying.

“Instead of using a task force to buy votes, we will create an interagency team comprised of representatives from several agencies. This will be known as task force “Kontra Bigay,” and will be comprised of Comelec, the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),” Commissioner George Erwin Garcia told reporters in a message.

Garcia, on the other hand, stated that they have not yet received complaints of vote-buying.

“As a result of these broad coordination efforts, immediate action is expected either motu proprio or in response to formal complaints alleging vote-buying. As we previously stated, our commitment to eradicating this anomaly is unmatched,” he added.

Complaints may be lodged with the Comelec’s Law Department or with any of the Comelec’s regional offices.

“Once the task force is activated, the public may also file a complaint with the task force’s member agency,” Garcia explained.
