MANILA, Philippines – Since January’s Omicron outbreak, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has been steadily declining, a health official said Friday.

Infections fell 15% this week compared to last week, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during a Palace briefing.

National admissions for Covid-19 cases have decreased by 75% from a January high of 5,218 admissions.

As of March 23, the country’s total bed utilization remained low at 17% of 104,351 beds.

Additionally, the nation’s ICU bed utilization remains stable at 16% of 3,529 beds as of March 23.

As of March 24, the government had fully vaccinated 72.81 percent of its target population of more than 65 million people.

Meanwhile, approximately 78.57 percent of the population, or over 70.7 million people, have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Around 12 million people received their booster shots.

Vergeire stated that 736,143 children have received their full vaccination against Covid-19 and 1.8 million have received their first dose since pediatric vaccination began two months ago.

Nearly 8.9 million adolescents have received all of their vaccines, while 9.78 million have received their first dose.
