Dengue fever is on the rise in Zambo City, according to the CHO.
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The City Health Office (CHO) warned Tuesday that a dengue outbreak is imminent as the number of cases continues to grow.
Since January, according to local health official Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, there have been 866 instances of dengue fever with 11 deaths.
“We believe there is an approaching outbreak because the number of instances has been increasing in recent weeks,” Miravite added.
With 488 instances of dengue fever, the majority of those afflicted are children aged 0 to 9. She said there were 282 instances among those aged 10 to 19.
Five of the city’s 98 barangays – Tetuan, San Roque, Sta. Marcia, Mercedes, and Putik – had significant dengue incidences, according to her.
“We will declare an outbreak once there is a sustained increase in dengue cases,” she said, urging the public to use the “4S” technique to deal with dengue cases in their neighborhoods.
Search and remove mosquito breeding sites; secure self-protection; seek early consultation; and support fogging only in hotspot areas where an increase in cases is reported for two weeks to avert an oncoming outbreak.
Dengue fever is a viral ailment spread to people by infected mosquito bites.
Aedes aegypti mosquitos and, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus, often known as the tiger or forest mosquito, are the principal carriers of the disease.
Headache, muscle, bone, or joint pain, nausea, vomiting, pain behind the eyes, swollen glands, and rashes are all signs of dengue fever.
