MANILA, Philippines — On Wednesday, a low-pressure area (LPA) that the weather agency has been watching may bring scattered precipitation to a large region of the country.

This LPA was last seen 15 kilometers northeast of Davao City or near Laak, Davao de Oro.

“It has a minimal potential of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, but we are still considering the possibilities,” Grace Castaeda of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said (PAGASA).

The LPA is expected to bring scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms to Palawan and Mindanao, as well as scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Visayas, according to PAGASA.

“The LPA will continue to deliver rain to (these areas), and the public is warned to take care and be on the lookout for possible flooding and landslides,” Castaneda said.

Meanwhile, rainfall will fall over Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Quezon, as well as scattered light rains across the rest of Luzon, due to a northeasterly surface wind flow.

Over the whole archipelago, moderate to severe winds and moderate to rough waves will persist.

The northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the western seafront of northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon are all expected to experience strong to gale-force winds.

Fishing boats and other small sea vessels have been cautioned not to enter the water, while larger sea vessels have been warned of strong waves.
