Taiwanese investors are being urged to invest in Northern and Central Luzon.

MANILA, Philippines – The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is asking Taiwanese companies to set up shop in Northern and Central Luzon, notably in the Poro Point Freeport Zone and New Clark City.

The BCDA said in a statement on Monday that it has been in contact with Taiwanese businesses to see if they want to develop in Luzon because of its proximity to Taiwan.

“[Poro Point Freeport and Special Economic Zone] is the property that is closest to Taiwan.” In fact, with an airport, a seaport, tourism, and a recreation/gaming complex, it’s just a stone’s throw away from Taiwan and Xiamen, making it ideal for Taiwan locators,” BCDA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Aileen Anunciacion Zosa said in a recent meeting with Taiwanese businesses.

The San Fernando International Seaport and the San Fernando Airport, according to Zosa, are important trade infrastructures in Poro Point.

The seaport’s three piers can accommodate all types of boats, while the 40.5-hectare airport serves as an aviation training center.

The San Fernando Ferry Port Terminal, a PHP35-million project in collaboration with the Department of Transportation, is also located in the Poro Point Freeport Zone.

“In addition to the air, sea, and land infrastructure projects near Poro Point, the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the BCDA have also implemented the Luzon Bypass Infrastructure Project, an ultra-high-speed information highway that will greatly improve the speed, affordability, and accessibility of broadband internet across the archipelago,” according to the BCDA.

It goes on to say that installing a cable land station at Poro Point will aid in the development of Northern Luzon’s information technology sector.

Meanwhile, Zosa emphasized prospects in Central Luzon’s New Clark City.

New Clark City aspires to be the first smart, green, and resilient metropolis in the country.

According to Zosa, with “Build, Build, Build” initiatives in the works for Central Luzon, New Clark City will provide a business-friendly climate.

She went on to say that the BCDA has teamed up with a number of organizations to build key infrastructure in New Clark City, including the Department of Agriculture’s National Seed Technology Park and the Department of Science and Technology’s Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines.
