PRRD advises Murad to give BARMM a “little push” to be vaccinated.
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte encouraged Chief Minister Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to get more Bangsamoro people to get vaccinated against Covid-19 on Monday.
Duterte voiced concern that BARMM had the lowest vaccination rate among the country’s 17 regions, with only 27.31 percent of the region’s 3 million target population fully immunized so far.
“Mga Muslim kapatid ko, pati yung (My Muslim brothers and sisters, and the) men running the BARMM,” she said. In a prerecorded Talk to the People, he added, “I’d also like to ask to chairman Murad na (to) kindly offer a little push for the people there to get vaccinated.”
He warned the government would “not be able to solve the situation” if BARMM residents continued to resist immunization.
Due to investigations and clinical testing, all Covid-19 vaccinations were found to be safe and effective, according to Duterte.
“It’s a matter of science.” It has been researched and experiments have been carried out. He stated, “Hindi lang dito sa atin, pati sa labas (Not only here, but also overseas).”
Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 implementer, will be going to Cotabato City to oversee the Covid-19 immunization effort in the region, he added.
Galvez previously stated that the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health (DOH) have both expressed concern about a likely increase in Covid-19 cases in BARMM as the month-long fasting month of Ramadan approaches.
Some Muslims, he said, refused to be vaccinated because they believe the Covid-19 vaccines violate their religious and cultural beliefs.
In response, Duterte stated that the government respects and honors their values, but that public health must take precedence.
“In my opinion, your reluctance or lack of interest in being vaccinated is not a good reason na ayaw ninyo (to decline it),” he stated.
Because the BARMM is now run by appointed officials rather than elected officials following the passage of a law deferring the region’s first regular elections from May 2023 to May 2025, Duterte stated that they are “constrained by what the government says.”
Duterte also mentioned that Middle Eastern countries were among the first to obtain Covid-19 vaccines for their citizens to urge BARMM residents to receive their shots.
“Those who ordered the vaccines first, much ahead of the rest, are Muslims from the Middle East.” “One was the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, where nabili na kaagad nila, may pera sila (purchased theirs immediately quickly because they have money),” he continued.
‘Covid-19 is here to stay,’ says the author.
People should always know, according to Duterte, that “Covid-19 is here to stay.”
He went on to say that if everyone gets vaccinated, the virus may “become unimportant.”
“And we don’t have to worry about contamination anymore,” he added, “since each person is battling the infection.”
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) previously stated that special immunization days are being considered to address BARMM’s poor vaccination rate.
Meanwhile, Secretary Eduardo Ao of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) stated the Philippine National Police will coordinate with BARMM officials to ensure that individuals attending religious mass meetings get vaccinated.
Only those who have been vaccinated are allowed to attend religious services, according to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases standards, according to Ao.
The provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, as well as the towns of Marawi and Cotabato, make up BARMM.
Over 66.2 million Filipinos have been fully immunized, with 12.2 million receiving booster shots.
