MANILA, Philippines — According to a health official, the number of new Covid-19 cases in the country has reached a halt.

Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire of the Department of Health (DOH) revealed in an online media conference that 1,903 new infections were reported for the week of April 5 to 11.

“Na tinataya na 271 instances per day, mas mababa ng 26 percent kung ikukumpara noong nakaraang linggo (Which averages 271 cases per day, down 26 percent from last week’s total),” she continued.

The country’s positivity rate, or the percentage of people who test positive during a certain period, has dropped to 1.6 percent from 1.8 percent last week.

As the incidence of new infections declines, the healthcare system’s capacity in the United States remains vulnerable.

The overall use rate for Covid-19 beds is 16.6%, while the critical care unit bed utilization rate is 18.4%.

Moreover, half of the hospital hospitalizations are classed as mild or moderate, with only 11.8 percent of total Covid-19 admissions being classified as severe or critical.

To keep the number of infections on the decline, Vergeire recommended the population to continue adhering to minimal public health standards and to get vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19.

Those traveling during Holy Week should bring important goods including a face mask, vaccination card, hand sanitizer, water, emergency medicines, an umbrella, and a handkerchief to avoid becoming unwell and getting the coronavirus. (PNA)
