People clamor for political dynasties, according to PRRD.
MANILA, Philippines โ President Rodrigo Duterte declared Tuesday that the political dynasty’s supremacy would endure since it is still favored by the Filipino people.
Duterte claimed in a speech held at Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, that powerful political clans hold various positions in government because “leaders” in the Philippines have called for it.
The late president Corazon “Cory” Aquino (1986-1992) and her son Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III are also members of the Aquino political dynasty, according to Duterte (2010-2016).
“But it’s the people that demand it, much like the Aquinos,” he remarked during a campaign sortie for his ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Duterte, whose three children have all been elected to public office, said he feels “embarrassed” that his family is one of the country’s most powerful political dynasties.
Sara Duterte, a vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor, Paolo Duterte, a Davao City 1st District Representative, and Sebastian Duterte, a Davao City Vice Mayor, all followed in their father’s political footsteps.
Duterte claimed that he and his children had no choice but to comply with the leaders’ demands that they run for politics.
“Kani bang political dynasty, ako gusto kong muatras, ihatag pud nako’g โ galing kadtong pagkahawa na nako pagka Mayor, pag-election, giingnan nako mangita ta’g lain kay kaning akong anak nga babae medyo medyo ‘O sige pa, tan-awon ta lang,’ Usahay said, perhaps to please me. Let’s see what happens. (In terms of political dynasties, I’m not a fan and like to give others the chance.) When I stood down as Mayor, though, I encouraged them to hunt for someone else because my daughter’s temper is erratic. “Okay pa, let’s see,” he’ll say now and again, perhaps to satisfy me. Let’s see how things progress),'” According to Duterte.
“Ingnon nagbalik-balik mi, dili namo na gusto, nakakahiya nga eh, ingnon nagbalik-balik mi, dili namo na gusto, nakakahiya nga eh.” The issue is that the majority of the leaders are not interested in doing so. ‘Mayor, ang imong anak,’ said the barangay captains. ‘Ayaw lang na kay kana sila may apan,’ says the speaker. As a result, mapugos ka gyud (They claim we keep returning.) We don’t want to because it would be humiliating. But the issue is that this is exactly what the leaders want. ‘Mayor, we chose your children,’ the barangay captain would remark to us. ‘No, not them,’ says the narrator, ‘because they, too, have flaws.’ So you don’t have a choice),” he added.
Duterte remarked in November last year that the existence of political dynasties is “not bad,” unless the powerful families are involved in illegal activities like the illegal drug trade.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on Federalism and Constitutional Reforms on the 1987 Constitution recommended including a ban on political dynasties in the proposed modifications to the 1987 Constitution, but the 17th Congress rejected the plan, calling it “anti-democratic.”
Several anti-political dynasty bills were also introduced in the 18th Congress, however, they are now pending in committee.
Promises that were kept
Duterte, who is slated to leave office in June 2022, said he would leave the president with gratitude since he was able to keep his pledges, such as keeping peace and order in the Philippines.
“Nahinumdom mo ang tanang tibook Pilipinas meeting, wala ko manaad og daghan kay hibaw ko lisod og mubuhi ka’g istorya nga dili nimo dayunon og imo bang sala o di man gyud puwede nga maabot sa imong So ang una nakong gisaad ninyo ituman nako tanan (Can you remember that in all of the meetings I had here and throughout the Philippines, I never promised many things because I know how difficult it is to make promises that you can’t keep, whether it’s your fault or not, or whether it’s beyond your capacity.) So I’ve kept every promise I made to you at the start),” he explained.
Duterte went on to say that he still has time to fulfill “all” of his pledges.
“But, on the other hand, kanang una sa tanan, dawata ninyo ang akong utang kabubut-on sa kaninyo pagpahimo nakong Presidente.” Siguro tinud-anay lang, wa nay hinambog, naningkamot gyud ko nga magsirbi sa atong nasod, naningkamot gyud ko nga magsirbi sa atong nasod. But first and foremost, please accept my appreciation for making me President. The things that I have done and the things that I have dreamed of accomplishing, mura og naay gamayng nabilin para sa akong mga saad. Without sounding arrogant, I worked extremely hard to serve our country. Whatever I’ve accomplished, the things I’ve done, and the things I’ve dreamed of accomplishing, there’s still time to fulfill all of my commitments),” he remarked.
