The Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Pasig Local Government Unit (LGU) have teamed up to promote green spaces and climate resilience.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has inked an agreement with the Pasig administration under the Climate Resilient and Localized Urban Greening Plan to further minimize the effects of climate change (CRLUGP).

In a Facebook live video on Monday, DENR-National Capital Region Executive Director Jacqueline Caancan, Pasig Municipal Mayor Vico Sotto, and other city officials emphasized the need of putting climate action into action as part of their week-long Earth Day 2022 celebration.

Caancan cited the country’s harsh weather conditions throughout the years, such as devastating typhoons and drought, as contributing to the seasonal reduction in water availability, notably in Metro Manila and its bordering provinces.

She stated that the memorandum of understanding would assist the city in identifying optimal places for green space conversion.

Furthermore, Sotto acknowledged climate change as a real issue and pledged his full support to the department’s efforts to mitigate its negative consequences.
