CEBU CITY, Philippines – Former presidential spokesperson and senatorial aspirant Harry Roque stated on Tuesday that the province of Cebu needs its own Light Rail Transit (LRT) to make it easier for people to travel and to handle the deteriorating traffic problem, particularly in the Metro Cebu area.

He added in a statement that Cebu needs a railway infrastructure that connects the province’s northern and southern corridors.

“I-implement natin’yung mga infrastructure projects para maibsan narin ang lumalalang traffic problem,” Roque remarked.

The senatorial candidate, who came to Cebu on Monday to attend the UniTeam grand rally at the South Road Properties, said the province urgently needs a mass transportation infrastructure that allows for faster travel.

“Sa Cebu, kinakailangan ng mass transportation, kinakailangan nang ituloy ang LRT dito.” It’s the trains that we require, sa tingin ko. Ito ay makakaatulong sa mga Cebuanos na makaiwas sa traffic at mapadali ang transportation system nila (Mass transportation is required in Cebu; the LRT must be pursued). I believe it is the trains that we require. This will enable Cebuanos in avoiding traffic and facilitating a more efficient transportation system),” he explained.

Roque, a former law professor, said that in addition to the railway system, he will ensure that more Cebuanos have access to safe drinking water.

“Lulutasin natin ang main problem sa Cebu, which is the absence of drinkable water,” says the author. It’s a serious problem in Cebu. (We will solve Cebu’s major problem, which is the shortage of potable water.) This is a major issue in Cebu. We will provide enough potable water to the province, much like the right to water and food bill we are promoting),” he stated. “By 2028, we will have made potable water a reality for all Filipinos.”
