Antique is still pulling for Lacson, while Reporma members in Aklan are rooting for Sotto.

MANILA, Philippines – Members of the Partido Reporma in Aklan and Antique continue to back independent presidential candidate Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and his running mate, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, despite Lacson’s departure from the party in March.

After a town hall meeting in Kalibo, Aklan on Tuesday evening, Lacson met with members of his old party.

He stated that the Reporma members had requested the meeting.

“Kaya pumunta ng Aklan at Caluya, meron kaming candidates, nag-request sila kung pwedeng puntahan ko sila. They continue to support me, Ang Reporma (members). Because of you, sabi nila kaya kami nag-Reporma (This is why we were scheduled to visit Aklan and Caluya.) Some Reporma candidates requested our presence. They continue to back me up. They said they joined Reporma as a result of my influence), “In a statement released on Wednesday, he said.

Lacson said their support meant a lot to him, and that it encouraged him and Sotto to keep fighting to the end.

“There will be no retreat. There will be no surrender. There will be no withdrawal, “Lacson explained.

Lacson left Reporma in March because its president, Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, opted to support another candidate. Some Reporma members left the party at the time to support Lacson.

Lacson campaigned in Iloilo City and Kalibo, Aklan on Tuesday, while Sotto was in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental.

On Wednesday, the two are expected to campaign together in Antique’s Caluya Island and Iloilo’s Sta. Barbara.

When Lacson arrived in Estancia on Tuesday morning, he was greeted warmly by the locals.

He paid Estancia Mayor Melina Requinto a courtesy call, noting that she is supporting another candidate but addressing him as “President” after he presented her and local officials with his Budget Reform Advocacy for Village Empowerment (BRAVE) initiative.

Lacson stated of the mayor, “She was even egging the barangay chairmen who were present and (the) majority (who were there).”

Lacson commended his supporters and volunteers in Estancia for helping communities affected by Tropical Depression Agaton’s flooding.
