CITY OF DAVAO – The City Health Office (CHO) announced Wednesday that nearly 4,000 booster shots were given to residents in the last week, providing them with additional protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

According to CHO data, the city gave booster shots to 244,800 people, or 18.74 percent of the 1,306,446 Dabawenyos who were fully immunized, as of April 22.

The figure is higher than the office’s April 12 figures, which showed that 240,672 people, or 18.48 percent of fully immunized people, received booster doses.

The booster shot, according to Dr. Michelle Schlosser of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, offers an additional layer of protection against the severity of existing and novel variations.

“We need to take advantage of this opportunity because we have trusted brands that can be given away for free,” she said.

The local administration, in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development and the United Nations Children’s Fund, has begun to rely more on mobile vaccinations as part of its efforts to raise the number of inoculations.

In order to implement mobile immunizations in offices, the local government sought collaborations with commercial enterprises and facilities, particularly BPO companies.

Vaccination hubs have been set up in a number of shopping malls throughout the city to help people who live far away from previously accessible vaccination centers.

Vaccination clinics are now open Monday through Saturday, giving working people and students more opportunities to receive immunizations.
