Escudero applauds Sorsogon’s designation as the “greatest PH site for animals.”
CITY OF LEGAZPI – Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero celebrated the province’s designation as “Best spot to discover Philippines wildlife” by Condé Nast Traveller, one of the world’s most prestigious travel publications, on Wednesday.
Sorsogon, known for its abundant fauna, has been named one of the Philippines’ top ten most beautiful islands, among global favorites Boracay in Aklan province and El Nido in Palawan.
Sorsogon is ranked seventh among the greatest islands in the Philippines by Conde Nast Traveller. Boracay, Siargao, and El Nido came in first, second, and third, respectively. Calaguas, Balesin, Sorsogon, San Juan (La Union), and Puerto Princesa were in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in Palawan.
“In many ways, Sorsogon is the greatest site to discover the Philippines’ diverse biodiversity – one of the richest in the world,” according to a statement issued by Escudero’s office. It’s ideal for people wishing to spice up their trip to the Philippines with a little adventure. Swimming with manta rays and enormous ‘Butandings’ (whale sharks), hiking the Bulusan Volcano National Park, and sailing down the Donsol River are all options.”
Donsol, in Sorsogon, is known for its safe and amicable “butanding” encounter, in which visitors are permitted to swim with whale sharks without touching or feeding them.
“A relatively undiscovered spot, the Donsol River offers a beautifully ethereal boating experience,” according to Conde Nast Traveller, “as its idyllic agricultural environment is transformed by hundreds of thousands of fireflies that brighten the riverside once night sets.”
Meanwhile, Escudero claims that the area is not just rich in animals but also in history and that these factors have been driving domestic tourism to assist the province recover from the pandemic.
(Tourism is about more than simply beautiful sites, beaches, and good cuisine.) Above all, tourism is about telling the story of each location. Sorsogon’s tale may not be well-known, but it is unique and cannot be compared to that of other places),” he remarked.
Escudero, who is running for Senate again, believes that telling the stories of each location is crucial to marketing the Philippines, which the province is doing through the Sorsogon Museum and Heritage Center.
