Cusi assures Pimentel that unity will strengthen the PDP-Laban.

MANILA, Philippines β€” For the interest of the ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi sought reconciliation with Senator Aquilino Pimentel III on Friday (PDP-Laban).

Pimentel stated they will file a motion for reconsideration after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruled that the officials and members of the Cusi-led faction are the “genuine and official” members of the PDP-Laban. He also described the other group as “fake” members.

Cusi expressed his desire to resolve his faction’s problems with the Pimentel wing in a public statement.

“Senator Koko Pimentel is invited to meet with us.” We encourage him to take a step back and refrain from becoming emotional. For the sake of PDP Laban, let us band together. “Let’s make the party stronger than it’s ever been,” he urged.

Cusi expressed confidence that Pimentel, the son of late PDP-Laban co-founder Aquilino Pimentel Jr., would accept his offer.

“We are requesting that he refrain from making incendiary statements.” We have previously collaborated. He stated, “We can work together again in the future.”

The Comelec Second Division recognised the legality of the Cusi wing over the Senator Manny Pacquiao-led faction in an 11-page resolution announced Thursday.

“Given that President Rodrigo Duterte’s chairmanship is an undeniable and well-established truth in the aforementioned dates, chairman Duterte’s acts on even dates are equally undisputed.” The fact that he presided over the election of new sets of officials and committee chairpersons “validates the entire process,” according to the resolution.

The Cusi wing’s national council meetings on May 31 and July 16 and national assembly on July 17 were likewise declared valid by the Comelec.

Cusi expressed gratitude to the Second Division, chaired by Commissioner Socorro Inting, for making the “right decision” to declare and acknowledge his side as the true PDP-Laban party.

“Without a question, we in the PDP-Laban are re-energized to continue President Duterte’s programs, services, and advocacy from today till the next term.” Cusi said, “Let’s keep changing.”

Cusi speculated that the Comelec took into account the “unwavering support of its (party’s) more than 100,000 members countrywide, as well as the devotion of its more than 5,384 incumbent officials and candidates.”

In a subsequent statement, Pimentel stated that he will appeal the ruling, which he described as “not immediately executory.”
