MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. has left Manila for the highly anticipated US-ASEAN Special Summit in Washington, D.C. from May 12 to 13.

The Philippines’ commitment to collaborating with its Southeast Asian neighbors and the United States for a sustainable post-pandemic recovery and a peaceful and secure region, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

During the two-day summit, Locsin is expected to join Asean leaders at a number of events hosted by President Joseph Biden, Jr. and other US government officials, focusing on areas such as pandemic recovery, health security, maritime security, climate change, clean energy transformation, digital economy, trade, and sustainable infrastructure, among others.

The special summit is the second of its kind sponsored by the United States since it joined Asean as a conversation partner in 1977, marking a significant milestone in the 45-year relationship between the two organizations.
