Sara will accept Sara’s educational portfolio.
MANILA – Presumptive Vice President Sara Z. Duterte has promised to lead the Department of Education alongside incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to help the country generate “talented learners.”
Marcos announced in a press statement on Wednesday evening that he would propose Duterte as education secretary, which he said would be the start of the country’s education sector’s growth, as he compares her to a mother who wants to ensure that her children are well-trained and educated.
“Si Inday Sara, tinanong ko siya kung kaya niya ‘yung trabaho dahil mahirap ang trabaho ng Secretary of Education, but nag-agree siya.” At palagay ko, kasama na diyan, dahil (I asked Inday Sara whether she could manage the job; being Secretary of Education is not easy, and she accepted.) I believe it is because she is a mother who wants to ensure that her children are well-educated and trained. Marcos stated, “That is the best education we can aspire for.”
In a statement, Duterte expressed gratitude for the trust shown in her.
She said that they had discussed her appointment as Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) prior to the campaign, but that this will no longer be the case with the latest development.
“We discussed the Department of National Defense before the campaign. But, given the current state of affairs, I expect those who want the new administration to fail to invent intrigues about my loyalty and the DND position in order to destabilize the UniTeam,” Duterte remarked.
“The Uniteam wishes for a stable Philippines with the best harmonious administration possible,” she continued.
She added she and Marcos discussed how she might help in the country again yesterday and decided to work on generating proficient learners with the aim of realizing their “full potential as individuals.”
“Our country requires a future generation of patriotic Filipinos who promote peace and discipline in their neighborhoods,” remarked Duterte.
Although it is the “first time in an exiting government” to hand over a medium-term plan, outgoing DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement that they are optimistic that the “Basic Education Plan 2030” would be in capable hands and anticipate continuity.
Briones was thanked by Duterte for their willingness to work with her staff to ensure a seamless transition to her government.
“In the meanwhile, we congratulate Secretary Leonor Briones and the whole Department of Education for their willingness to engage with our team on the leadership transition following the proclamation,” Duterte stated.
“We recognize Sec. Liling’s sincerity, hard work, and dedication in executing education reforms during the Duterte administration,” she added.
