Wage boards in Ilocos, Cagayan, and Caraga have approved wage increases.
MANILA – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) in Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), and 13 (Caraga) have approved a daily minimum wage hike for private-sector workers ranging from PHP50 to PHP90.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said in a statement that on May 16, RTWPB 1 unanimously issued Salary Order No. RB1-21, which provided wage increases ranging from PHP60 to PHP90 to be distributed in two to three tranches.
The minimum pay in the region will now range from PHP372 to PHP400, up from PHP282 to P340 under the previous Wage Order.
The Board also issued Salary Order No. RB1-DW-03, which grants PHP500 and PHP1,500 monthly wage increases to domestic employees in cities and first-class municipalities, respectively, bringing the new monthly wage rate to PHP5,000.
Meanwhile, on May 17, RTWPB II issued Salary Order No. RTWPB-02-21, awarding wage increases in two to three tranches ranging from PHP50 to PHP75.
From PHP345 to PHP370, the new minimum wage rate in the region will range from PHP400 to PHP420.
On the other hand, on May 17, RTWPB XIII issued Wage Order No. RXIII-17, incorporating the PHP15 cost of living allowance (COLA) into the PHP305 basic income under the previous Wage Order and granting a PHP30 wage rise, bringing the new daily minimum wage rate in the region to PHP350.
The new daily minimum pay rate of PHP350 will take effect when the Wage Order for private establishments and their workers in Butuan City and the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur becomes effective, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.
Private establishments and their employees in the provinces of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, including Siargao Islands, would receive a PHP20 wage increase upon the Wage Order’s implementation, followed by another PHP10 on September 1, 2022.
The revised Wage Orders will be reviewed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) and will go into force 15 days after being published in a regional newspaper.
Retail/service establishments regularly employing no more than 10 workers and establishments affected by natural calamities and/or human-induced disasters, including the pandemic, may apply for exemption from compliance with the issued Wage Orders under the Omnibus Rules on Minimum Wage Determination.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III complimented the three regional pay boards for responding quickly to his request to assess their current minimum wage and for going above and above in resolving wage adjustment petitions in their jurisdictions.
After the NWPC affirmed their respective wage orders on Tuesday, the DOLE also announced that new minimum wages in the National Capital Region and Western Visayas will take effect on June 4.
Bello is the NWPC’s chairperson.
