The DA’s PRDP exceeds expectations and receives additional money from the World Bank and the European Union.

MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) celebrated the milestones attained by the Philippine Rural Development Project on Monday, barely over a month before the official handover to the incoming administration (PDRP).

The DA stated how they exceeded targets despite the hurdles given by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic during the hybrid inauguration of the 14th World Bank Implementation Support Mission to the DA-PRDP live-streamed through Facebook.

“Ariel Cayanan, DA Undersecretary for Operations and PRDP National Project Director, remarked, “We at the PRDP continue to hit, not only hit but even break our own target, which is something the PRDP family should be proud of.”

With the help of the World Bank and the European Union, Cayanan claimed they were able to achieve encouraging outcomes for farmers and fishermen, allowing them to launch a new chapter (EU).

PDRP’s achievements, according to him, include 1,174 projects in 79 provinces benefiting 969,800 household beneficiaries nationwide; 107 approved value-chain analyses; construction of 1,490-kilometer roads, over 1,100-meter bridges, more than 100 pre-, and post-water facilities, potable water systems benefiting at least 9,300 households; and improved irrigations, among other things.

“PRDP is not based on an aim or a goal; it is based on a number.” “There’s a saying that if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it,” he said. “PRDP has been successfully managed, which is why facts and statistics will indicate.”

Meanwhile, Agriculture Secretary William Dar stated that PDRP’s outstanding achievement should be recognized by the new administration.

“I believe the second additional funding and EU co-financing grant for the Philippine rural development program demonstrate this accomplishment and demonstrates shared commitment,” he said.

Dar has stated that he believes the future administration, led by likely President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., will prioritize the agricultural agenda in order to ensure the country’s food security and sovereignty.
