MANILA, Philippines — As part of this year’s road safety month, Grab Philippines has organized a safety ambassador boot camp for at least 150 of its drivers and delivery partners, dubbed “Drive Safe: Kalsadang Ligtas, Happy Ang Lahat.”

The road safety education initiative, according to Wayne Jacinto, head of Grab Philippines driver operations, could help reduce road-related incidents.

“Being on the road is central to Grab’s day-to-day operations, and we are optimistic that, through various road safety education programs, we are empowering our drivers and delivery partners to be road safety stewards within their communities while continuing to strengthen our ongoing advocacy for a safer and more efficient use of our thoroughfares,” Jacinto said in a statement on Wednesday.

Select drivers and delivery partners will get webinar training and instructional programs from road safety experts and government transportation organizations such as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

According to data from the Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMARAS) from 2020, vehicles and motorbikes accounted for the majority of the 65,032 traffic-related events registered in Metro Manila.

During the boot camp, professionals will give key tips on road safety and defensive driving to equip drivers with the knowledge they need to prevent and avoid road accidents.

It also attempts to remind drivers and delivery partners of important traffic and transportation norms and regulations in order to instill discipline among them.

They will also go through a session on proper road etiquette and attitude.
