Three agreements between Israel and the Philippines are in the works to strengthen business ties.
MANILA, Philippines — The Israeli government is looking forward to finalizing three agreements with Manila to strengthen its commercial ties.
Ilan Fluss, Israel’s ambassador to the Philippines, told reporters on Thursday that the two countries are likely to sign a document establishing a Joint Economic Commission between the Israel Ministry of Economy and the Department of Trade and Industry “in the coming weeks.”
Negotiations for an “agreement on the promotion and protection of investments” have also finished, according to him, with the text ready to sign.
The third agreement, according to the envoy, will be a memorandum of cooperation in the field of innovation.
“You can see that we’re pouring a lot of money into becoming closer to each other in the fields of innovation, technologies, and economic ties,” he said, “both on the level of putting in place the infrastructure, or the degree infrastructure tools for that.”
According to Fluss, Israeli companies interested in investing in the Philippines include those in self-driving cars, agriculture, oil and gas, health, and business process outsourcing (BPO), among others.
“There’s a lot of interest,” he said, “but as I’ve previously stated, Europe and the US (the United States) are much more appealing, so we’re trying to make the Philippines more appealing.”
Meanwhile, he stated that the Israeli government is ready to engage with the new administration and expressed hope that the two countries’ general bilateral relations would improve.
“I have to add that we have had close ties with the Philippines in the past. And I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t continue, not only because I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t, but also because I believe we can improve them even more “he stated
“Obviously, we’ll have to wait for the administration to take office before we can get serious about establishing goals and specific areas on which we can collaborate,” he added.
