To enable the province to be downgraded to Alert Level 1, health officials in Negros Oriental must quadruple their efforts in the vaccination campaign against coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Liland Estacion, Assistant Provincial Health Officer, said on Monday that she has encouraged city and municipal health officers, as well as rural health units, to increase their aim in order to achieve a greater vaccination rate, despite a change in the province’s vaccination target population.

“With the current modification of the target population, our achievement of more than 60% in the past weeks has now decreased, which means it will take longer for us to downgrade to Alert Level 1,” she added in a combination of English and Cebuano.

According to Estacion, based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing, the National Vaccination Operations Center boosted the target for Negros Oriental from 990,637 to 1,148,424 people last week.

She pointed out that the earlier aim was based on an outdated census.

According to Estacion, before the adjustment, Negros Oriental had reached over 70% of the previous immunization target.

“With the 157,787 additional individuals included in the target, we have now fallen backward in the percentage rating,” she stated.

According to her, the province’s achievement has reduced to 57.3 percent with the revised aim.

Residents in this area, according to Estacion, should take advantage of the free Covid-19 immunization because the province has enough supplies to last until June 30.
