MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday that once the recommendations are finalized, the introduction of booster vaccinations for children aged 12 to 17 years old could begin as soon as next week.

The Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) has already submitted its suggestion to Secretary Francisco Duque III’s office for approval, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

Vergeire stated that as soon as he provides his go signal, the DOH will begin crafting the rules.

“Once the DOH, through the Secretary, adopts the HTAC’s suggestion, the DOH will create the rules on how we’ll administer these booster doses for children aged 12 to 17,” she said in a Laging Handa briefing.

Last June 14, the Food and Drug Administration updated Pfizer’s emergency use authorization as a booster shot for kids aged 12 to 17.

Following this, the HTAC approved the administration of an additional Covid-19 vaccination dosage to the age group, which was recommended to Duque on June 16.
